I get that some would like to pay $10 for an app once and own it forever, including all future updates (and all possible functionality) to the app (which includes new feature, maintenance and bugfix updates), however, we understand that to get the best product updates out to you (who won't pay, or won't pay beyond $10 in the lifetime) and everyone else (who may pay a subscription) we've found the best model with a free base/essentials app. So, as a free user, you will continue getting a great app with all future updates, without needing to pay a subscription.
You'll forever receive updates and upgrades to that too. I would like to clarify that all the features in the subscription tier have never been in any other paid or free tier, so whatever you enjoyed from Drawboard PDF in the past is still there for you to use in perpetuity whether you downloaded it for free, or if you paid ~$10 once off for it many years ago.
